Bags are packed
Our bags are finally packed, weighed, and taken away to the airport and loaded onto our plane. Between the six team members we have over 1,000kg of food and equipment, plus the fuel we will collect upon landing in Antarctica.
There is a small weather window, a weather ‘keyhole’ in fact, that we are hoping to sneak through tomorrow for our flight. A 4am pickup is scheduled, so an early start to our journey.
We will fly into Union Glacier, a camp managed by Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions, where we will spend a day or two doing final comms, medical, and equipment checks before taking a Twin Otter flight to our start point at Hercules Inlet on the Ronne Ice Shelf.
Fingers crossed for weather to fly!
