DAY ONE - WE ARE IN ANTARCTICA

We arrived in Union Glacier, set up and met with the ALE staff who have supported us getting down here.

There are a few other expedition teams heading out over the next few days so it has been great chatting to them as well.

After multiple weather delays in Punta it is amazing to be down here finished the final preps before we fly out to the start point tomorrow (weather permitted).

The sky is crystal clear, clean air and amazing views.

We will finish off testing some kit and blow out the cobwebs before the big day!

Thanks to everyone and anyone who has helped/donated and supported getting us here so far

Bags are packed

Our bags are finally packed, weighed, and taken away to the airport and loaded onto our plane. Between the six team members we have over 1,000kg of food and equipment, plus the fuel we will collect upon landing in Antarctica.

There is a small weather window, a weather ‘keyhole’ in fact, that we are hoping to sneak through tomorrow for our flight. A 4am pickup is scheduled, so an early start to our journey.

We will fly into Union Glacier, a camp managed by Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions, where we will spend a day or two doing final comms, medical, and equipment checks before taking a Twin Otter flight to our start point at Hercules Inlet on the Ronne Ice Shelf.

Fingers crossed for weather to fly!
